Most trips to Tiger Leaping Gorge begin in Lijiang. The Tiger Leaping Gorge national park is located roughly two hours from Lijiang by taxi, private car, and bus. Buses are available from Lijiang bus station. If you book a tour or a room with us, we will be happy to help arrange for your transportation, either to our from our place. Choose your trail:

There are two choices for the trail: high trail or lower trail. There are three viewpoints on the river: Upper, Middle or Lower Tiger Leaping Gorges. You can choose to trek from one to the others, in any direction.

If you choose to begin at Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge and go towards Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge, you have 2 options for your hiking starting point: either from Qiaotou (which was the original high trail starting point), or Naxi family Guest house, made accessible by the construction of the Lijiang to Shangri-la railway and highway. Most travellers opt for this route and hike up to Walnut Garden, and then continue their trip to Dali or Shangri-La. The walk to the old ferry is very picturesque and should not be missed. The ferry is reliable and the hike on the opposite bank is less steep and much safer. After crossing the river from the old ferry, the path continues through the fields and houses of the local Naxi people, before joining up to the road to Walnut Garden. There is a ticket office just before the Walnut Garden. Two minutes walk beyond Ticket office is Sean's Spring Guesthouse. It is a 20 minute walk from Walnut Garden to the high trail start.

If you choose to begin at Daju, closer to Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge: buses leave from Lijiang at 8.30am and 1.30pm. When you pass the Lijiang tourist sightseeing spot, you have to pay the entrance fee of 120RMB and the "protect the old town" fee of 80RMB. When you enter into the gorge, you still have to pay the gorge entrance fee of 45 RMB. It is overall more expensive, but the trek route is much easier, and at Qiaotou you can catch a connecting bus to other places (eg. Shangri-La).

To get further, to the Haba village or beyond...

After trekking along the gorge, you can choose to go beyond, to Haba village and/or Haba mountain.

From here, you can stay for one week or more and go climbing the Haba Mountain.You can do a one-day trip to the big waterfall or the Middle Gorge. You can rock-climb behind Sean, or ride a horse in the area! The 9am bus goes by our Guesthouse right up to Baishuitai (White Water Terrace). And we can also organise a private car to take you beyond to Shangri-La sightseeing roundtrip.

After a short rest, you can climb up the ladder to the main road.To the right you can see the one line sky path. We choose to go to the "one line sky path" after a section of the cliff on the cliff, looking back is a line of days, the legend is that even the birds are afraid to go back to Xiang place.
